I'm glad to have a job now. I just need something legit to spend my money on. Can someone help me find a decent rig for 500 bucks? Any good websites? Tips on building my first computer?

I know how to switch out hardware, like hard drives and video cards, but I've never started from scratch.

If I need to spend over 500, I can save up some extra money. But, please, help me out?

I have keyboards and mouse and shit. If it would save me money, I have plenty of sound cards and USB ports lying around. No monitors or speakers. Just hardware peeps

Kthanks

This is pretty useful, thanks. I think I'm going to build a Green one.

That is such absolute bullshit, an i3 playing new games perfectly?
Maybe when they first came out.

i5-2500k is the second best processor available and it's cheap as chips in comparison to the i7. Get 4GB of DDR3 RAM and a good MSI motherboard, along with an ATI Radeon 5770 or if you want to play super high res with sick games get whatever the latest ATI card is Smile If you can afford it get two 500GB SATA HDDs and store your shit on one and your operating system shit on the other, or you could use one for a certain kind of shit and the other for music/whatever idk and get a SSD to put your OS on. Also get a Sharkoon case they're cheap as fuck and really good.

It's around 610 bucks, but I think it's worth saving the extra 100. What do you guys think?

And yes, I do want to be able to play the latest games at a decent speed.
I chose a 500 gb hard disc because 1 TB is absolutely fucking useless unless I'm really into movies.

Don't get that. Your processor is very important. I just realised though, 500$ is not anywhere near like 500 GBP. You aren't gonna run new games.

D:
But it says that 500-600 is good enough to run newer games.
But fuck all, my current computer is so shitty anything is better than it.
Athlon 2850e ~1.8 Ghz
1790 MB ram
Nvidia GEforce 6150SE nforce 430 (<- This is where they really fucked me over. It's integrated)

As you can see, I'm fucked. I bought this prebuilt for 350 bucks 4 years ago, and even then they overpriced its outdated components for stupid people. Anything that can play any games released past 2010 on high or even medium graphics settings is good enough for me.

You're asking for a lot. My computer is as follows

MSI Motherboard that only supports i5-2500k and things that came out after it
4GB DDR3 Corsair RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4670
Intel i5-2500k 3.6GHz
Antec High Current Gamer 520W PSU
Some random 500GB SATA2 HDD and a CD drive.

I bought just the RAM and processor along with a Sharkoon case a few months ago and it set me back 250 pounds. I had the rest already, and collectively that was proably around 170+. That's 420 pounds. 659.77800 U.S. dollars.

I can't run all the top games at high or medium settings. My shit is throttled on my GFX card. Luckily TF2 is a CPU heavy game so it runs well, but still bottlenecks when I'm on high res with high settings.

Right a decent gaming build will be $700, you can get away with $600 but it won't max shit out without overclocking and it will be outdated quickly.

Well shit :\
Well, you can always get a better graphics card. Afaik, the graphics card I'm planning on getting is slightly better than yours though. So, the bottleneck shouldn't be so severe as long as I get a decent CPU. The cpu I picked is "Good enough" apparently. I mean, 3 ghz is twice the clockspeed of what I've got now. It's dual core and double threaded, however, I don't know too much about Cpu so I'm just going to say that's FINE.

Still, I'm not sure if that's what I should buy. You could be right- I'm most likely going to run into problems with games maybe a year or two from now, but it's shouldn't be severe until a few more years, right?

EDIT: I'm not aiming for full graphics on blockbuster titles anymore, however, I'm aiming for "No longer has to go into direct x 7.0 mode with lowest graphics to play Mount and blade warband, but able to play on 9.0 mode with all shaders and high model/shadow details."
M&B just being a random example.

The issue is you need to make sure you buy a motherboard that can use the CPU you have but will also work with the one you want in the future. Check the socket.
