My friend who's father has paranoid schizophrenia and who's mother is bipolar wants to take LSD. He has gone to several therapist and they all say that he is not bipolar nor will he ever develop paranoid schizophrenia. His only problems are social anxieties and trust issues which developed due to specific reasons. He casually smokes marijuana and it seems to make his anxiety disappear. He gets into a state of fearlessness and has deep logical thoughts. After usage his over all life is better for weeks afterward so I'm assuming that if he had any chance of developing schizophrenia the marijuana would've caused some sort of paranoia which it did not. The worst experience of his life involved an anti-depressant which was prescribed to him because he could not get over a past relationship which had driven him to overdose on several medications due to the lack of a person which he had loved. All in all he ended up regretting his overdose as soon as he did thus I've concluded that he did not want to actually kill himself. He also now has a greater respect for life and enjoys it far more than he used to. All in all... I'm wondering if I should allow him to engage in the use of this drug. He seems to really want to do this and has done tons of research but cannot seem to come to a conclusion. What do you all think?

tldr; family history of mental illness, therapist say mild depression & social anxiety, enjoys weed fixes his problems and wants to try lsd yet people say you shouldn't if you have family history.

Tell him to do it IF he's in a good state of mind. If he isn't he'll trip balls and kill himself while thinking he is a fish and a fisherman at the same time.

I'm all for smoking weed, but I would never try LSD. That shit is scary. People do LSD and end up mutilating themselves with knives thinking that their hands are potatoes, and crazy stuff like that.

Taking LSD once won't fuck you up, don't worry about it.
People have gone bad on LSD at my place plenty of times, but they never tried to kill or hurt themselves, and the next day they were all OK again.
It's scary to see them freak out though, but that rarely happens.
