I traded for it during the sale, and I'm having some serious trouble on anything past normal. Any tips for a support?

Keep Moving. never stop in one place, keep going in a direction and circling the map, if everything in front of you is dead then turn around and walk backwards, killing whats behind you, but don't forget to check back every now and then.
Never camp in an area, unless all of your team is there. some places might seem like you could stay there and hold up for a while, but its a trap, its always better to keep moving then to stay where you might think you can cover all angles.
If the map is outside but has areas that monsters spawn in buildings, weld the doors on the outside so you can wait till the end of the round when the doors are un-welded to kill them.
Stay together, and make sure you have a wide veriety of classes, if no one is playing medic, then go medic, its just as important as in TF2, unless you think you can solo the round yourself as something else, then always try to be whatever you don't have.
Make sure when you throw grenades don't hit the monsters with it, unless you plan to do so. grenades bounce off players and monsters.

and team communication is always important, at least have 1 bro you can constantly talk to and you'll usually do fine.

He basically covered it. If anything else always make sure that you aim for the head.

Shooting the zombies head disables its special abilities.

When it comes to scrakes if you are a berserker or sharpshooter it is your job to aprehend then with either a samurai sword or the crossbow.

Oh yeah, berserk run really fast, so you can hit the flesh pound until its angry and kite it, you can take some hits too, but really have to kite it.
Level 4 sharpshooter kills a normal fleshpound in 2 headshots with the crossbow, so if you think you can get it from far away and no one is too close, you should go for it.
playing on hard or anything you'll want to have high level perks though.

Suck less.
Aim for head.
Switch you perks around depending on what weapons you have (For example go marksman because pistols first, then change to what you want when you get money for that weapon)
Body armour is more important than buying that weapon.
Seriously, get body armour.

Stick with your team.
Exploit your environment and stay close to teammates, always.

And a Firebug, no heals for him if they can aim with the Husk gun.
