I highly doubt my parents would pay to patent, so I'll probably draw up a printable version and instructions. You'll probably enjoy it Kyle, and I'll give you the printable version whether I can patent it or not.

Screw it, there are more advanced devices out there, mine wouldn't get any recognition. I'll make a printout for in in a bit, but this is what it looks like.
First image is me making a C Ionian(Major) scale, second is an A Aeolian(Minor) scale. Third is F# Dorian. The devices gives you the possible chords for a chord progression as well as a pentatonic scale that will fit over any progression in the key.

Nope, every key in 7 different modes.
Example using the tool: F Mixolydian
Scale: F G A Bb C D Eb
Chords: Fmaj, Gmin, Adim, Bbmaj, Cmin, Dmin, Ebmaj
Consonant pentatonic scale: F G Bb C D F
You can use this info to, say, play that pentatonic scale over the progression Fmaj, Bbmaj, Cmin, Fmaj
It will all be in key.
To use the device, line the key you want up with the roman numeral I. Then line that up with the desired mode. The maj, min and dim markings on the outer ring tell you what the chord is for that degree of the chord progression directly below it. The check marks give you the consonant pentatonic scale for the selected mode and key.
Picture attached is the above example, F Mixolydian. Yes, I know I misspelled mixolydian and lydian.

I've taken 3 engineering courses and I can tell you this.
One does not simply invent something.
You'd have to do a bunch of annoying documentation and contact a bunch of annoying experts and pay a lot of money.
Congrats on your creation though. I don't know anything about music or what you're talking about, but I'm sure it's all dandy.

it's quite helpful. I don't see how you can make better tools than this (unless they just get more elaborate about this shit)

Pretty much just more elaborate. As for Church modes, Ionian-Locrian, this is all you need.
@Up2, yea the costs are just too extravagant. I'd rather just distribute it freely. It's actually a great little tool, and I've been using it all day with great results. It can also teach new theory students with relative ease. It actually surprised the hell out of our school's band director, he asked me directly to make him one.
