will that overwrite Windows on my Laptop? Or would it just install completely to the SD and leave my Windows alone. I'm tired of going to my USB and Ubuntu restarting every time. I'm hoping to use Ubuntu every now and then, and want it to save my files everytime. _________________

SD = solid drive? you mean hd?
Anyways, you can make it resize windows or use free unpartitioned space. |

You'll need to make sure your PC is able to boot from USB, then you need to install Ubuntu ONTO the USB (note that you need a second USB or a disc of the ubuntu .iso burned/written to (or partiotioned, if the one USB is large enough I suppose) to install it to the USB.
Anyway, I'd suggest just modifying the size of your windows partition on your main harddrive and installing ubuntu there as well to go for dual-booting. _________________

it shows up because its not like a vm that you run on top of your current OS... pretty much wubi installer is dual-boot(on a virtual partition)(less performance) for people that dont know how to partition, and make a real dual--boot |

Yes, but what I'm asking is, how would I open this screen every time I want to switch though my systems. Or are you saying that option will always be there with startup because neither OS is set to default? _________________

Oh, the only way to boot to the other os would be to restart your system..
And if you want to edit Default/boot times use EasyBCD (google it) |

So when I turn off my computer and turn it back on, I'll be presented with the boot loader? _________________

You choose which device to boot from, using your bios menu.
You can set the boot priority to HDD, then SD, then CD.
This will always boot to your Windows on the HDD first, and only boot to Ubuntu when you press a key (delete on mine) and then choose to boot from the USB device (SD). That is probably the best way to do it if you don't want to use Ubuntu very often. _________________
