Spent a free class today learning the writing system and pronunciation. I've started transliterating my notes to Russian for practice. I'll give it half a week to a week before I start learning grammar. I want to get the writing system out of the way first. I really like it though, very simple to learn. If you have some time, just take an hour to learn enough to transliterate, if only for the novelty of being able to do it.

No, the alphabet can be found online pretty easily, then I plan on using rosetta stone for familiarity, and later a book for grammar.

Why not just learn Japanese. You seem to watch anime pretty often and it could come in handy, probably more often than Russian. Just saiyan _________________

I was surprised how easy the alphabet was(Russian not japanese) but I hear there's a confusing declension system..

...then again, I've taken Latin 1 and 2, so I think i've seen the worst possible declension system already.

EDIT: @ Gannok, I've said in another thread already. I don't learn languages for their usefulness, I learn because they interest me. Japanese doesn't interest me.

Have you tried learning it? The sound of it is shrill and weak. The writing system is way too much of a burden to learn. To me, it's hard to pick out words in a sentence. It's just not my thing. I was able to get through only HALF of ONE of the writing systems and that took me a week of practice to do.

Russian sounds thick, powerful. The writing system is easy to grasp and looks cool, i've also learned and nearly committed the entire thing to memory in a total of 2 or 2.5 hours. From what I've listened to so far, the words can be picked out much more easily than Japanese.

The only reason I'd try to learn Japanese again is for it's grammar system, which is unique and smart. Everything else about it turns me off though.

Plus you can't be labeled a weeaboo for learning Russian ;P

By shrill, I mean there's little to no gutteral sounds..if that makes sense to you. I can look up a few examples to explain if you need.
