I just don't like the look of them. Yea you can change colors or zoom infinitely, but a Mandelbrot is a Mandelbrot. There's no user interaction, so there's no learning. It's just "Here is a mandelbrot...isn't it pretty...thank you for using my program"
Strange attractors on the other hand...are a different story

They are fascinating to me simply put. Apart from them I can think of no program ideas. I wish I had some project idea with purpose, but I simply don't, so instead of letting my familiarity with programming waste away, I keep active a bit by making programs dealing with fractals.
I've looked at project idea sites and threads, they all also seem so pointless. At least fractals are interesting instead of "Make a sudoku solver" or "Make a banking program"

Fractals are interesting in the sense of scale symmetry, recursion and self-similarity. Essentially an object composed only of other objects made of itself at different scales, with the number of objects and minimum size based on the number of iterations for generation. Plus, I'm pretty sure theres some use or appearance of them in chaos theory or something of the sort.
tl;dr Interesting from a theoretical and intellectual point of view, not too practical.
