What should I ask to confirm it's quality? I know to check for RRoD, and if the console is banned from Live, but what else?

Ask what style it is (arcade, elite, core)

If he says core, instant no.
If he says elite, ask if it was a special addition. If yes, then don't buy.
If no, ask when it was bought, pre september 2009ish instant no.

If arcade, ask if it came with a memcard, if yes, instant no.
If no, same with the date for the elite.

also, no hdmi = instant no on any system.

This is making sure you get the more reliable 360 that has a much lower failure rate. If you're a go on the above, ask about cables. Should be it.
