Because my mother leaves the door open because it'll stink from cooking if closed, many flies make it into my home. Occasionally, one pesky little fly makes it into my room, and proceeds to buzz around the room pissing me off. The fly seems to like my room so much that even if I try to chase it out, it dodges into my blind-spot, and hides until I sit down.

Thing is, it almost never lands on a surface I can see/reach easily, and when it does it is usually near places that I'd have to risk breaking something. I also have trouble hitting it in mid-air because I have horrible hand-eye coordination, and they are just so fast. Sometimes I'd rather have a cockroach because they're much easier to kill because most of them don't have the advantage of flying so well. Does anybody know how I can kill flies that make it into my room?

I live in the tropics, so bugs and other pests are a large problem. You could try: Mosquito coils or spraying Mortein/insect repellent around your doorframe (works for about a week).

On another note, in my country there are many, many species of cockroach. Some are as big as your palm, and some can fly. Count yourself lucky.

I too am a bit OCD when it comes to flies. No matter what I am doing I am compelled to stop get up and chase the little bastard till I kill it. I am usually able to towel snap them in mid air.

Something you could try that is said to work in the south. You could try hanging a bag of water outside the open door. It is thought that sunlight refracting from the bag keeps flies away due to having so many eyes. Whether there is any truth in this I can't say, but it might be worth a try. The alternative would be the electronic fly bat.

When I lived in Texas we had the flying ones, not as big as the South American buggars but pretty damned big, we also had smaller ones that would bite you.

Easier to ask someone at a department store. I think they kill mosquitos by hanging an electric lightbulb to fry anything that comes close. Don't know about flies, they aren't attracted to heat nor light. I wonder if they can smell.

Flies are attracted to these, but they are impractical for home use.

I will need some proof on that. If they were sensitive to light, they wouldn't be flying around so much and only in the summer, do i have to mention the heat?

I just pulled the "Water in a Bag" trick and put it on the back porch. Damn flies are still running around.

Spray them with insecticide spray till they die, fuckers. Or my favorite, put some honey in a frying pan and watch the flies come and get their asses glued to the honey. Its pretty fun.
