I got a retail copy of Minecraft 1.7.3 beta and everytime I try to inject code into assembler I got from 'find out what writes to this address' minecraft crashes if I attempt to modify the write code in anyway. Is this a problem with Java or some sort of CRC check with Minecraft.

I have a work around, if I find out what reads the address and inject the code there it doesn't crash. My question is, why does this happen and is this Minecraft specific or with all JRE applications/games?

Thanks.

I had the same problem too. Use 'find out what access to this address' instead of 'find out what writes to this address'

I don't know why, but it works.

Ya, I'm wondering if this is a Java Runtime issue or the game itself. I don't play many Java games.

Well, I don't know. What I do know, is when you use 'what writes this address' to one address, the same code appears when you find 'what writes this address.'

emulators use the same code for all data access
Try finding a way to find the address another way.
Probably still a hook there, but evaluate the registers, follow back to the base, find the classname and variablename of the var in the class, and then compare if it is what you need

I see, so this is a JRE issue then. I'm assuming it's interfering with the interpreted code.

If you inject an unchagned template and it is crashing, the problem is the code injection itself. If not, then the problem was the code itself that you have replaced/changed.

I don't play java games at all but if it is using static addresses compared to the base address, probably one of the registers will hold the base address and you can calculate all addresses compared to that. At least this is working in most emulators. But no idea about java.

Ya, it's definitely not the injection itself, because creating a jump and executing the original code causes no crash, only when the instructions are actually changed does a crash occur.

Then it is not a protection. Probably just a shared code that is messing with the wrong values too and crash the game.
