I wouldn't recommend an i5 at all unless you're on a budget, i7 all the way.

Because everyone renders video or forces their computer to do large tasks.

Because the "big tasks" of today become the background noise of tomorrow; better to invest in a processor that's overkill now and capable tomorrow than have to get a new processor or even whole rig.

What's tomorrow? If it's 2-4 years I'd want a new machine anyway.

By then, there would have been new advances such that he could get a cheaper and faster computer than the i7 anyways.

Not necessarily, 2GHz doesn't mean much. In fact there are two 2GHz mobile i7 out in the market, and one is a dual-core.

Also, 8GB of memory? Overkill, especially for your graphics card and processor.

Well i think intels turboboost boosts it up to like 2.6ghz

Pretty much all the i7 laptops I looked at had 2.00ghz i7 processor (2630QM)

I only found one i7 with 2.8ghz and that had a crappy video card

I know 8GB is overkill but other laptops with 4GB were $999 with the same specs
so might as well take the 8GB Razz

U need to realize both i5 and i7 are actually 4 threads, whereas it shows 8 threads in your computer, half of them are actually hyperthreads (pseudo, like cutting C:/ into D:/ and E:/)

unless you are doing something graphic/ram heavy (Video, Java) the difference will not be that much

last to consider is the budget, i7 is wayyy more expensive than i5

Well i've already ordered the i7 as people are right, you cant really upgrade a laptop

Better to buy something that will last a bit in the future

when did java become 'graphic/ram heavy' requiring a faster processor.. ?
