Cheat Engine

So I know that many RPGs made with RPG Maker XP program is "locked", so to speak. The folders containing the graphics for the game is hidden/encrypted/locked/whatever. The point is that you cannot have access to those folders. Now is there a way to hack into those folders to tamper with the graphic files?

Debug the main app and locate where it decompiles/decrypts the folder/archive that holds the files and mimic it in your own app or script.

How exactly do I go about doing that? Is there any engines/programs I should use? I'm really such a noob at this.

So after I debug the thing and tinker with the files, if I want to put it back where it used to be so the game will have the tampered graphics instead of its original, do I just copy the folders or use the Cheat Engine again?

The game I want to tamper with is the Aveyond game series, if that's any help. The Title graphic folder is open, alright, but the rest are locked/encrypted. Some of the folders are open, but its contents aren't.
