Cheat Engine

So I have recently found out about this Cheat Engine. Seen the vids on youtube, even talked to some folks over at arcadeprehacks. So I figured I'd come over here and ask my question.

Is it possible to hack (or what ever terminology you want to use) games like Starship Command, or Empires and Allies with CE?

The reason I ask is because Command and EnA are both games that while I enjoy them.......progress becomes quite slow a lot of the time. I don't want to hack the game to make myself a god or anything. Mostly I just want money in these games.....both norm and special.

Lastly the reason I have come here is because to put it quite frankly, there are A LOT of people on the net that do not know what they are talking about. I go through their "walkthroughs" and it does absolutely nothing.....
Does this mean that these games are server side protected?

Have you tried playing the game, and then ALT + TABing out of the game while playing, or CTRL + ALT + DELETE to get out of the game to your computer without it messing up the game? If it can do that, that's a good sign.

From there, open the game by ALT + TABing or CTRL + ALT + DELETEing, open Cheat Engine, select the game, and go back into the game. If there are no problems, then it works.

I can think of a few games that act differently. Worms World Party does no let you ALT + TAB out of it, and when you returned to the game it was ruined. Serious Sam 2nd Encounter and Quake 2 didn't work with ALT + TAB, but CTRL + ALT + DELETE worked, and the game was fine when I returned to it. The older Aliens vs Predator Gold Edition worked perfectly with ALT + TAB.


To sum it up in 2 questions:
1. Can you get out of the game without quitting?
2. After opening it with Cheat Engine and returning to the game, is everything still normal?
If you can say yes to those 2, then it works.
