How often MSE updates is sad.

You'll find you still get the odd virus.
Paid antivirus is the best option.

Oh, I've also never had an anti-virus installed on my computer and never been infected.

Choose Avast!, i use it and the best free antivirus you can get on the net.
And for Nod32, it's good as i used it 2yrs ago before i moved to Avast! since the version 4 of Nod32 uses much more system resources than the previous versions of it and my PC can't handle it anymore. Moved to Avast! because it uses less and does not delete any false positives directly without letting you choose which option/action to click.
