shut off
turn back on
and there is no gui. asks me for login in a plain screen.

yea i derp'd up x i found.
new question.
say i want to use 2 different workspaces in 2 different monitors
how would i go around doing that? best i can do right now it the 2x wide shitscreen, which is a little akward with a 17 inch lappy and a 58 inch tv
im newfag with ubuntu :l

This uses nVidia TwinView to display a separate X Session on each monitor. You won't be able to drag a window from one screen to another.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=826717 This method is for Ubuntu Hardy-Heron which is the stable rc, it may work for other builds.

If it's a kernel panic, you are screwed. If it's just a lack of GUI, put in root for user and toor for pass if it's still set to default. After that, type in startx to start an X Windows session. Also, if you only have root as a permissioned user, I recommend you immediately create a new account and give it the appropriate permissions that you want, then never touch root unless you know what you are doing.
