Only two things are going to be done on the notebook,

1. Homework (word processing, photoshop)
2. Online Videos (porn)

As long as it's under $1000, I'll be able to get it, and seeing as how the activities on this notebook will be so miniscule, it shouldn't be any more than $500, right?

So I'm really bad with this kind of thing... Look at my price range for instance. Homework computer for $500-1000. lol... okay so disregard that. I don't know what to look for. All I want is a computer that has these traits:

1. Lowest chance of crashing
2. Good battery life
3. Won't burn my palms when typing on Microsoft Word for hours
4. 15 inches? (I don't know about this, I just don't want to strain my eyes from looking at tiny letters for +4 hours)

oh, and one more thing. I don't want to build it. I prefer simplicity. I just want to walk into Future Shop/Best Buy or whatever, find it, buy it, leave.

Yea. the boss way.

Thanks a bunch guys.

You get used to 13" monitors quite quickly, it's not that big of a difference as you might think, they're usually cheaper as well. Just saying..

Get any of the Dells that have low specs for around $300-400. If you plan on going for something cheap for just homework get something from a trustful company that has decent warranties like Dell.

I'm not a fanboy for Dell but their laptops aren't terrible, and since you don't need any major specs for it, it should be fine.

Hero... honestly why would you recommend that? You know very well that he can get a laptop that can be used for homework/video viewing for < $600.

Find one with a decent amount of reviews that you like.

Becuase he said under 1k, so why not just go all out? Also because I can.

He cannot play HD videos on a shitty laptop with a slow ass core. Otherwise I'd suggest a netbook. He also said he wanted a nice sized screen. This is bigger than 15 inches by far.

Okay, I looked at the Hero's suggestion, but that is a little expensive... I just chose a really broad price range because I didn't know how much these kinds of laptops would cost. I'd be just as happy with a low end laptop, thanks though.

And thanks for showing me that selection SF. I've decided to get this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834157502
HP ProBook 4520s Notebook

Everyone seems to be happy with it, so I'll probably like it just as much.

Thanks for the help guys. Really appreciate it :,)

Seriously?

I can't find a cheap 13.3" laptop that's cheap for shit. I wanted something light and portable, but I ended up with a 15.6" because all the 13.3" laptops with similar specs costed ~$100 more.

Glad to see I have made impact on you.

Now for real: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834157541

Gets 4 hours battery, screen fits the size requested, should play movies easily. Nothing else is needed right?

Sony VAIO is a crap, I would never buy it. In top of that, it is more expensive than the other brands because it is Sony (like if that would be a good thing, even though Sony computers are crap). They try to sell used/returned/faulty notebooks as new so congrats for them. They don't have a normal service and trust me, You would need it soon enough.

AMD is the other thing that I would avoid, all of my AMD CPUs have died after a short and shitty performance, while I have some pretty good and old working comps with Intel.

Toshiba and HP is nothing special but at least nothing especially wrong too. You just need to make sure that the retailer has a very good reputation because the retailer is just as important as the brand that You choose. Some of them are selling used junk as new, "upgrade" their notebooks by themselves (when they are obviously not qualified to make changes and of course they don't know shit about repairing a notebook) etc etc. Avoid hypermarkets and other sources where the seller has no idea what is He/She selling at all and get some info about the company before You walk in and buy something. This is a hassle of course, but better than screwing up and buying the wrong stuff.

(Yeah also check feedbacks on the notebook that You have choosen to see if it has some common fault that people are complaining about.)

Notebooks have limited upgrade so choose the models with the most features even if you don't need it. You will get to use it one day. And look check out models with discrete graphics.

Business models generally are better built than their consumer line up, take a look at those if your budget allows it.

If I need to get a notebook, this is what I want to have

- Discrete graphics
- Express card 34/54 slot
- HDD shock protection
- USB 3.0
- Not necessary, but if a notebook will let me have 2 HDDs, that is a plus.
Some models have it.
