I don't think He is 20 years old and has a job with a steady income. And until that happens, all He can do is follow His parents' instructions. The "I do what I want" teenage attitude is just plain silly and usually resulting in something bad. Probably His parents are not evil overlords who are enjoying to see Him suffer. There is a reason why they don't want that Xbox.
Go to work, earn Your own living, rent a house, be independent and then You can do what You want.

Provide a compromise with them, talk about how you'll get straight A's or B's (if you have bad grades), and in return you will get an XBOX 360/Ps3, but for the XBOX360, you have to continue to get good grades for them to buy you the XBOX live.

Let your grades fail, leave without asking permission, shit with the door open, punch walls, just be really belligerent. Swear. Tell them "it's my fucking money, really?"
Study your state's law carefully and find things you can get them to do to break the law, like hit you or not feed you.
You tried the nice way of doing things and now it's time for the hard way.

But at OP, how old are you? My parents started letting me spend my money the way I wanted once I turned 14. |
Give me a break, there's a difference between a troll and a funny joke. That was a funny joke.
You'd be surprised how controlling most kid's parents are about buying certain things. I knew someone once whose parents pretty much wouldn't let him spend money on anything that they could see (essentially, he could only buy things that he could keep a total secret from his parents). And I'm talking things like a bottle of soda, or a pack of magic cards, let alone something like a gaming console.
I feel sorry if OP's parents are some of those parents who think that anything fun is a waste of money. He should try making them feel bad about it by asking just that, "Is it a waste to spend money on anything that isn't a direct necessity and serve important purposes except for being fun?"

I do have to admit that it does depend on where the money came from. Even though I was allowed to do nearly anything I wanted as a kid, I had a couple hundred in a bank account that I wasn't allowed to touch. At least until I was 14-15 and absolutely demanded it. A few hundred dollars is such a small amount of money, there's really no reason to save it for years. If I had saved that money until I turned 16 and got a job, it wouldn't have even been half a paycheck... so it was much better that I spent it when it could have actually brought me some happiness.
If you've earned the money yourself, you have every right to spend it how you want. If you buy a console and they take it away from you... sue them. Even if you are under 18, you can sue your parents for the cost of the console. Then they will get the message.

Argue on everything. I'm being serious, everything. Even stuff you agree on. What will end up happening, and your parents will think they're smart for this (when really they're just playing right into your hand), they'll choose to "pick their battles." If you do the blatant opposite of everything they say, even if you agree with what they're saying, so that you're arguing over absolutely everything, they'll sacrifice smaller things in order to hold ground with the bigger things (which are probably the things you agree on anyway).
I'm being serious. You'll find yourself with a ton more freedoms in your life.

your advice is comically stupid and you are pathetically clueless. basically just another stupid kid who thinks he's hot shit with everything figured out. hopefully you'll figure it out with age like most.
even if you did decide to be a gigantic moron and somehow attempt legal action you would lose without fail if you were still living with them. it's their house, they are eating the costs of electric, insurance, heating, utilities, taxes, clothing, etc etc, and probably quite literally wiped your ass when you were younger.
if you go around punching walls like a moron and throwing a hissy fit over everything do you have any idea how dumb you look? aww sweet i let my grades fucking tank so hard and scored so low on whatever testing that the machine just printed 'dipship' instead so i get to deal with ridiculous costs come time for college instead of getting a scholarship and bla bla so on and so forth.
i'm pretty sure most kids have this stunning realization that UGH NOBODY CAN CONTROL ME FUCK YEAH but protip: looking and acting like an idiot is not the way to gain control.

Be responsible with it first. Save up double what whatever you want to get costs then ask to get it and tell them you have way more than enough saved in-case there's any emergencies. Figure out if they're just trying to be dicks or not, if they are; spend it without asking. If not, come up with a deal with them? Eg you'll save x amount per week/month and have y amount to spend.

What i usually do to save money is walk to from house to school and school to house. Every week i get $20 dollars from my parents but i barely spend it  . I only spend my money when needed, eg. emergency burger king!
But if you really want to buy a console, wait for a new version to come out.
Technology develops fast, so you should wait for a new version of the console to be released and then buy it . But be careful, new is not always better.
It is good to save money, it helps you buy anything you need if you have sufficient. But save.
