Read the bold parts for replies/clarifications.

What was the point of your post? Cigarettes are more addictive than heroin, and it's not the nicotine that makes them addictive. That's why patches, gum, etc just simply don't work... smokers don't smoke for the nicotine, they smoke for something to do.
I know, that was the point of me saying oral fixations should have been amongst your three reasons in your first topic. Smokers tend to have it. They need to have something in their mouth. The same goes along for the pencil/pen biters, nail biters, and people who just love to chew on things in general. It's not a matter of health; at least not untill an addiction pops up.
Ecigs have nicotine but for me, I don't vape for the nicotine. It just gives the vape a better throat hit. You can get ejuice with 0% nicotine but it'll be like vaping air.
After vaping all day my breath smells like pop rocks and since I've quit smoking, my teeth have definitely gotten brighter (and my taste buds improved).
There is one part of your post I do agree with though. You shouldn't care what others do -- that's the whole point of the idea of freedom that America is based off of.
I actually disagree with you here. It's irritating when a smoker stands next to you and starts puffing away. It's even more disgusting when they smoke all they long, and even when they don't smoke, you can smell the stench on their bodies from all the way across the room. People shouldn't smoke in public. Just because you want to suck on pointless, sometimes harmful substances, doesn't mean that those around you should have to inhale your crap or have to deal with the horrible stench that smokers have.
(Either way, I don't care about this. I don't have many smoker friends, and the few that do smoke, they know I don't like that shit in my house, cars, or around me in general. When it's me that has to be around them, I tend to just ignore it and not point it out unless they're literally smoking right next to me and it's just getting impossible to have a fresh breath of air. Like seriously, be civilized and show some consideration.)
However it's still irrelevant to this thread, because we are talking about a safe, unharmful alternative to cigarettes that work almost exactly the same way.
As irrelevant as it may be to smoking, the purpose of my reply was just to add one of the main reasons why people smoke. You made a list, and it seemed like you forgot this. You instead chose to write about having things in your hands, which is far less common than the actual need to have something in your mouth -- which is where any cigar goes. |
but yes, i agree, the reply in general was utterly pointless

Yes good points.
About freedom, while smokers should be allowed to smoke, you should also be allowed to complain. Freedom goes both ways.
Oral fixation is something that I overlooked, because I don't think smokers smoke for the same reason that pencil biters bite. When you smoke, you hold it in your fingers, and only have it up to your mouth for a few seconds.
So really I broke the oral fixation down into two parts: throat hit and holding something in your hand. The only time the cigarette is in your mouth for a long time is when your hands are occupied, and it's actually quiet unpleasant because the smoke stings your eyes. So I have to disagree and say that oral fixation is not one of the reasons people smoke. More like hand fixation and throat fixation.
As for a cigar, it's a little different but not much. The smoke is less likely to sting your eyes, but the only reason you'd keep it in your mouth is if your hands are occupied. Of course this is a subjective opinion, I was never really much of a cigar smoker except for the occasional treat.

I quit smoke long ago but if i was still smoking, then regular cigs would have been my choice, nothing beats em.
And e-cigs are for losers, thats my general view about it and im sure many other smokers have it as well.
I also agree with the guy in this thread who said i won't try ecigs because they aren't tested enough. True, at least we know whats in regular cigs, e-cigs are new and you never know FDA may warn you in future e-cig smokes your balls and leave you a one balled man. So no thanks me = cigs = happy joy
PS: actually regular cigs are known to shrink your nuts but still, having them shrunk to size of apple isn't bad

How can you say nothing beats them if you haven't tried everything there is to try?
I mentioned this in my very first post. In early 2009 when I first heard about them, I had your *exact* same opinion. They were for losers, and couldn't come close to a real cigarette. I almost held this same opinion the first time I tried one, because I hit it like a joint since I wasn't expecting much besides a tasty flow of air (which just like if you try that with a real cigarette, you will get a nasty throat burn that makes your eyes water... you have to inhale it in your mouth first, and then quickly down your throat).
The thing is, you can't judge ecigs just because they are "new". There are hundreds of chemicals in cigarettes that we don't know what exact effects they have -- simply because there's so many of them that we can't isolate each one and test it on rats to see its effect. So instead we just say "these are all the chemicals it has, and the combination of them causes eventual death and disease".
In contrast, ecigs are relatively simple. It is nothing more than a mixture of an FDA approved form of what is essentially liquid sugar, and nicotine. We have studied the long term effects of both, and know they that are relatively safe by themselves. No one has ever died from consuming food coloring or snow cones (which is what propylene glycol is used in), and you don't get cancer from nicotine.
The metabolism of propylene glycol has been well studied in humans. It metabolizes into pyruvic acid (a normal part of the glucose-metabolism process, readily converted to energy), acetic acid (handled by ethanol-metabolism), lactic acid (a normal acid generally abundant during digestion), and propionaldehyde. The required dose for toxicity is nearly impossible to reach by consuming food or supplements, and literally impossible to reach by vaping an ecig.
Therefor you can't say ecigs are "too new"... it's not like we are using an new, unknown chemical that we haven't thoroughly studied the effects of. We are using well known substances that have a long history of human consumption.
