Yeah I just started single player again as well. I'm currently playing using this: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=124219
seems to have just the right mods generally, you can always add new ones if you'd like. Also a launcher that keeps Minecraft from getting automatically updated, very handy if Mojang (as I suppose it's unfitting just saying Notch now, with the new employees and all) screws something vital up.
