So yesterday, Steam was working just fine. I decided to do some uTorrenting for Ghost in the shell. Today, when a friend of mine decided he wanted to play HL2 DM with me over steam, I couldn't see/join any servers.
I reinstalled steam, and instead of seeing what I'm used to (Normal steam UI, boots up like it should), I'm greeted with

Code:
"Steam.exe (Main exception): To run steam, you must first connect to the internet."

I'm furious. I KNOW that I'm connected to the internet and propery configured, because I'm ON the computer typing this message. Xfire has no connectivity issues, MSN has no connectivity issues, my PS3 is just fine. What I've done to fix this:
Quote:

Port forward all the reccomended ports. ALL of them.
Reinstalled 50 billion times both with the installer package and add/remove programs.
Repaired 60 trillion installations both with the installer package and add/remove programs.
Removed all steam registry entries, and allowed it to re-enter new ones.
Removed my steam folder before reinstalling. Apparently this helped people?
Removed clientregistry.blob, which just recreated itself upon the error message
Removed all antivirus programs, firewall, and even my router firewall. I am now extremely vulnerable to all and any attack.
System restore, which failed somehow every time. (Something about my antivirus, even though I no longer have one.)

My operating system is windows 7 home edition x64 bit (LEGIT). I'm sure you will only need my operating system info, right?

Please help!

EDIT:
I am now connected to my modem directly. This didn't help, but it was worth a shot.

Maybe a software issue like an anti-virus running or something.

Have you contacted Steam about the issue?

I don't know. I have MSCONFIG not run any antiviruses at startup, and my processes don't say that any are running...

Plus, it was working fine yesterday.

EDIT:

@Magori
Nope.

You do know that the steam client mostly just acts as a web browser, right?

Well yeah, but I don't want to just look at games and image I'm playing them. I can't launch or install games just by using their website.

My OP says that I did both of those.

Under your Steam Options make sure that Steam isn't set to use a Proxy. Yeah, I know but due to running uTorrent, perhaps something got borked. Also I'm wondering if Steam possibly flagged uTorrent and locked itself.

You wouldn't happen to have a program like Peerblock going on in the background would you?
