Nothing is infinite. Because if life is infinite in size(past our universe) there would be highly technological Aliens already and they would have already been able to come to our planet. Because there is an infinite chance of this happening.

OR, life could be a really jacked up thing. And we will explore the cool and sexy things in year 3421638924613298641398246198324712321455465876858567632984763129846123945172835418792364012386412938-473128907291384612084712563794512397621548213854321321794912396049081239804912304798123560412938640192351234000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000....

Everything in life can and should be explained through a simple mathematical function! Firstly, let us distinguish "the meaning of life" apart from the "existence of god." The meaning of life is simple and constant: 42. As you know, 69 is a common symbol for reproduction, but 6x9 is 42. Also, the time to travel from one point on earth to another (straight diametric line) takes 42 minutes (don't know why that's important, but its just another piece of 'evidence').

Now onto the existence of god. How can god be infinite you might ask? Just think of the following problem: A ball is dropped and every time it hits the ground it only bounces 1/2 as high the next time, thus the total energy can be represented by 1/2+1/4+1/8+1/16....1/n...Although we cannot count to infinity we can conjecture that it will eventually reach an infinite limit and converge to 1. if you add these up you will get closer to 1, but never really reach it. God is the same way.

The existence of god can add up to 42 also if the correct 1/n function is obtained. When they meet at the vertex, this symbolizes the paramount of life and when it hits the bottom life ends, but starts anew; creating a cyclic pattern.

Now you have all been enlightened! Feel free to visit the mathematical sect in the Church of Google anytime. You can find the commandments and such if you just Google it! Smile Not everyone there believes Google is the one god, since many of us are polytheistic...it is a pretty open church. Mostly, just don't search with Yahoo! or use internet explorer unless you want your temple (your computer) to be tainted by evil...

Wrong, wrong, wrong. That is the answer to the big question, not the meaning of life.

I prefer to think of infinity as an idea rather than a point.

Good point, but I think that "infinite chance" should rather be called "infinite possibilities". As having infinite possibilities does not mean that everything that can happen has to happen at one place, it rather means that everything that can happen will happen somewhere. This means that in our world, this is what happening, but maybe far-far away, there is almost an identical copy of this world where in fact, aliens may have visited us.

Just as numbers are infinite as You can always put one more 0 at the end of the number, but each of them is a different number. Infinite possibilities, but they are not the same.

Yes but, what if all of the 'infinite', is happening at the exact same fragment of time? Or the Aliens could be in different dimensions that humans cannot perceive, nor comprehend with technology.

Ah, long and pointless. Smile
What I wanted to say with the infinite thing that there are concepts that the human mind is not capable of grasping.
Like what created what, what is beyond the known universe etc.
If we would be able to think in such magnitudes, probably many more things would became obvious.

And it is also true that humans are not really capable of thinking out anything new that they did not experience.
Every god is pictured like something that is already existing in our world or they just say the god is formless or things like that. Just try to think about something that has nothing to do with our world. About anything. Probably You will have zero luck. Then how could we guess something that has happened long before even humans were created. It is far too much for the mind of the average people and probably "scientists" are going to crazy about thinking about this all day.

Yes, well as far as we can tell, the universe is infinite. Therefore, every possibility, so long as it is a possibility at all, must occur at some point in time. So, we come to the paradox of improbable inevitability. Although I might not win the lottery here, I MUST win in some alternate reality eventually.

However, the point that we cannot comprehend what we call "God" has a lot of truth too. I mean, if every possibility must occur and the universe is infinite, then do we really have free will? If I don't kill this person now, then I will eventually in another reality, n'est pas?! But if it isn't infinite, then why does it appear so? And where is the beginning and the end, then?

I suppose we are in some crazy infinite pool of hyper-spheres, where you can always go infinitely smaller or larger. Kind of like how you can keep tearing a piece of paper in half until you get to atoms and lower levels of matter. I suppose studying quantum physics should provide a bit more insight. They seem to exit simultaneously in multiply places and seemingly know where each other are even when no interaction appears to be present. Maybe we should just say: @#$*! all of this! Does it really matter what we believe. What we are already is. What is has already been. We don't necessarily need to know and if we can't change it, then what the devil is the point? lol

I don't debate that one bit. I just said that the imagination has its limits for the human mind. Try to imagine a completely other world which has nothing common with our world. It is very hard or maybe even impossible. Some scientists say that humans are not capable to imagine new things that are not based on their memory. Like thinking about other dimensions, thinking about the universe in other aspects than we observe with our eyes, etc. I don't mean they are not able to think about things that are not real, I mean they are not able to think about things that has nothing common with our world. Things that cannot be even told or described because there are no words for them as they do not exist in our world. The creation of life, god, the end of the universe. Basically all theories are based on things that we can observe or at least combine from our memories and experiences in our world.

If someone would know the truth, there would be no words of describing it. I think this is much more likely than the God who has long white beard and looks like an old man.

Btw, just because Einstein is considered to be a genious, it doesn't mean He was right in everything. He had a pretty fucked up life, which shows that He also had His problems. He was just a guy who was not able to fit in the average world and He was thinking about non-average things all day. He was thinking differently and while He was excellent in imagining new things, He was also unable to think like an average man. This has advanteges and disadvanteges. He considered to be a genious but He was not a successful in any average things like marriage, family and real life things.
I don't think He regret His life, but it wasn't all the way happy and pink dream. He was living in a slightly different world.

Thats because he had terrible LTM(Long Term Memory). His working memory capacity allowed him to do such high thinking things. Though he never learned to read until he was about 10, and had speech problems.
Check out all the wacky physics guys on youtube, they all have serious memory problems.

NOTHING will get discovered from just using Long Term Memory, all that does is store knowledge more efficiently. Whats the use of that if you can't create things, under stand simple physics, ect.. Its funny how people get deemed 'Intelligent' simply because they have humongous memory capacities.

But I guess this topic has ended.

Yes, good memory does not mean that the person is actually intelligent. However it is vital part of the human mind. I never thought about this but I wonder if a person would lost all of His/Her memories and would just wake up floating in darkness, what kind of thoughts would come into His/Her mind? That would be a very interesting experiment. What kind of thoughts would create the brain without any previous memory and without any physical contact with the world? Well probably instincts would come into action and it would trigger fear and other not so comfortable feelings, but what else?

I do not say that people are not capable to create new things. I say that they put them together from pieces of their reality. They are new in a whole, but the parts are not. Like thinking about a new word, writing a program, it is the creation of something new, but they are also based on our memory.
Of course using only Your memory is not resulting in any new idea, but the creative process of imagining something new is largely based on combining data that is stored in our memory to put something new together. That is why it is hard to imagine a completely different world. Because the reality will just sneak in into Your thoughts.

Yes kinda. Laughing
This topic is too big for this forum anyway. Smile
Probably the servers would be overloaded with crap before we would arrive to the final conclusion. Smile

Can you prove that math is a human thing? Was it discovered or invented? I would have to argue that although the linguistic conventions we have are invented, but only to describe math. Also, does math even really exist in this reality? Can you really have a perfect circle? I think not. Math is perfection...infinite, undying, timeless...Just for arguments sake, I would have to say math is the closest thing that we have to god. Surely if god did exist he would have to understand math perfectly. Ok, well this conversation is about to go awry and I am not usually this inclined to argue over ridiculous things such as this, especially seeing how impersonal it is. I say: we can't change it. It is the way that it is. Maybe we won't ever understand it, but until we do I suggest we just keep to what we actually know, such as computers. Annoying how no one paid much attention to my questions about hacking games, but this gets like 20 comments in one day?! lol
