| I'm pretty sure they would die. How would you go about doing it? You couldn't use wires because that is a safety hazard, although you may be able to get away if you use a small battery. I fail to see the point of the experiment.

| It would die, either instantly or after a long period of excruciating agony.

Using insects as a science experiment for the purpose of "what will happen if you apply electricity" is the dumbest idea I've ever heard.
Think of something else if you want to any electricity in your experiment.
If you can't think of anything, then try to light up a light bulb by using a jet stream of water that will shoot freely without any aid (using a tube) from point A to point B.

It will get you sent to jail for animal cruelty! Poor insects....
But seriously, it all depends on how much electricity you use and where you apply it.
Perhaps you can manage to control the legs, or you could see at what point it will boil from the inside an explode

their nervous systems are primitive compared to ours, i'm not entirely sure they actually feel pain.
reaction is different than consciously feeling pain, so much for excruciating agony. this can be seen in lobsters too, if i remember right.

| You would probably fail the science fair project. And the teacher would think you're high.

I read about something similar on Slashdot some time ago. Tokyo scientists implanted electrodes in a roaches brain. Turns out by stimulating parts of the living insects brain, the could induce it to fly, land, or walk in a certain direction. There is video running around somewhere of it.

i remember a video of a rat with brain implantation - they injected a device that gave it chemicals that make the body "feel" good. Then, they would send signals to the brain, if the rat obeyed, they rewarded the brain with the chemical. If it did not obey, idk what happened, probably nothing. But the point is, they were remote-controlling a living rat.
Talking about mind control...

I did it to a butterfly, it flew very fast right when I did it, then about three seconds later it slowed down, then died.
