The stock cooler coming with the processor should work fine for now, until you can afford better aftermarket cooling. Temps should be ~50c under load on stock, probably a bit higher when you start to OC and unlock the extra core ~60c. Until it hits 65c I wouldn't worry much, especially with the winter coming temps should lower even more.

Wait for the inevitable New Year's sale and grab yourself a cheap CM Hyper 212+, which should fit fine in your Rosewill case with a height of ~165mm. The case itself is ~180mm thick.

64-bit without question, since you'll lose 1GB of usable memory with a 32-bit Windows. 4GB RAM + 1GB VRAM, 32-bit limits total usable memory to 4GB only, with VRAM taking priority as normally unusable memory, leaving you with 3GB of usable RAM.

You should be able to max out all settings at ~50FPS depending on your resolution, although most people report everything maxed out on the 4850 with a resolution of 1680x1050 running at 60FPS w/ VSync.

vsnyc is when your FPS is capped to your monitors refresh rate.

It's to stop screen tearing, smoother pictures and less jumpy fps iirc.

Vsync caps your framerates at 60FPS to match monitor refresh rates to prevent screen tearing. It is generally inadvisable to turn it on if you are getting average framerates of under 60, in which case it would lower the FPS even more. Turning it on pairing with high framerates produces smoother images as well as less screen tearing. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screen_tearing)

Think of computer assembly as a sandwich. You take the case (bottom bread) and fill it up with the components (fillings), then you close the side panel (top bread). You will be using a small motherboard (micro ATX) in a mid-tower ATX case with lots of room to spare, so it shouldn't be too hard. Follow this Bit-Tech guide on computer assembly and you should be fine. Specific procedures will differ slightly from the guide due to the large variations of hardware, but the basic steps should be the same.

The case provides 7 3.5" drive bays, so you shouldn't have any problems adding more hard drives.

I think it goes down to the brand.

Personally I have never, ever had a Western Digital HD stop working. I've had 3 samsungs stop working.

Spinpoint F3 is better than the Caviar Blue without a doubt.

The general consensus is that Spinpoint F3's are better than everything else, both the 500GB and the 1TB models in terms of speed and reliability. I personally have three 1TB F3's in RAID 5, never failed for the past year.

You made it sound like as if that drive is going to cripple your brand new system.

For me it will be WD as out of all the drive I've own through out the years starting with my 20GB all the way to 1TB, none has died on my yet, except for the 20GB which I've accidentally drop.

Seagate are pretty good too, but I don't use it on my systems.

Toshiba are good at the notebook segment, while even though I praise WD, their notebook drives in my experiences aren't that great. One of my notebooks has a WD drive and got it replaced with another cause the 1st one pooped out. After 2 years of use, this one is starting to push daisies.

Maxtor: crap all the way, but some like my friend swears they're the best.

Samsung: They just going into the magnetic storage business which in my perspective needs to prove themselves from X number of years before I'll ever consider getting one. I'm not going to get it just because it has fancy numbers on some benchmarking test.

What I look for is longevity and warranty.
Seagate by far has the best warranty of 5 years.
