This program is a reverse engeneering / hacking tool. No wonder it contains codes which are similar to viruses. Like when my trainers are detected as keyloggers because they are in fact working similar to keyloggers to check if You press a key, activate/deactivate an option. This does not mean it is a virus because of that.
If You ever made a similar tool in Your life, You know that. If not, than don't be a "smart guy".
Btw. I am using CE for at least 7-8 years know. So I know it is not a virus.
Also, the guy who posted above You, AhMunRa is a system administrator with lots of knowledge... And there are plenty of other skilled programmers in this forum who knows what are they doing...

"clear registry" obviously means clearing the hkey_current_user\software\cheat engine part of the registry
Of course, this is only needed if you use the version without installer (only recommended for people that actually know what they are doing, which excludes people that believe their anti virus over common sense)

The registry is not one of the most critical parts of a PC. The registry in fact has nothing whatsoever to do with a PC. The registry is a part of Windows, a piece of software. It's not even that critical to Windows. Think of the registry as Windows' encyclopedia. "Windows: I need to run program X, what else does program X need to run" Windows will go to the registry and lookup information about this program to see what else it needs. That is all. You can safely edit the registry and have no impact on the rest of the OS, on the same note you can edit the registry and completely hose your system.
There is no one bulletproof Antivirus software on the market. If you don't believe me shop around and do comparisons on what one av detects over another. There are several that will flag one thing as viral yet flag a real virus as safe.
I suggest if you are in doubt use several scanners.
Just so you know, these days it is possible to infect a computer without using an executable file.

I knew You will answer something like this. I just don't know why it has taken so long. Almost 40 minutes...
Hope You were not sleeping or anything...

Virus protection rules, it's false positives that suck.

|
|
Recently I typed on google search:
Code: | site:http://www.eset.eu/ cheatengine |
I already know about this
Win32/HackTool.CheatEngine (2009.08.31)
But recently Eset updates "virus definition base" with these:
Win32/HackTool.CheatEngine.AA (2)OOOOOOO(2010 09 06)
Win32/HackTool.CheatEngine.AAOOOOOOOOO(2010 09 07)
Win32/HackTool.CheatEngine.ABOOOOOOOOO(2010 09 09)
Win32/HackTool.CheatEngine.AC (2)OOOOOOO(2010 09 10)
Win32/HackTool.CheatEngine.ABOOOOOOOOO(2010 09 21)
So there are 6 types of "standalone game trainer" made by cheatengine or what? And why they update now (I mean: why not few months ago)?
BTW I think Win32/GameHackTool.CheatEngine more appropriate.

probably because some new games are coming out and the publishers pay anti virus vendors to add ce to the list so people will be too afraid to use it

I don't think that He is a virus. But if He is, that is surely a miracle. Viruses don't create programs. They just infect all the time. They aren't really sentient beings.
