Ok, so on my friends laptop, everytime we try to activate her wireless it says
"Wirless Connection Off"
im not sure of her laptop, but its definitely asus, OS is win7
tried multiple things, done a thorough google searching to no avail.
so im here.
Edit: Apparently its an Asus N61JV
Edit2: Wireless was working early this morning, went to library, turned on, all of a sudden there were no wireless networks within the vicinity.
Edit3: I remember using "RemoveWAT" , yeah im total legals. Maybe that did something?
Edit4: Tried reverting to an earlier version (System Restore) didn't work.
Edit5: May just format her computer for her and see if that leads anywhere
Anyone got any ideas on what could be going on so I don't have to format my friends computer?

Check the wireless switch/button (physical) on the notebook it's self.

Well, seeing as im not physically with her, im not exactly sure of what she is doing.
And i already told her to do, and apparently she has, but its all apparent that only the bluetooth turns on after its ben switch off and on.

Is it enabled in BiOS?
I agree with Saif though, first thing I'd check is that the button was on.

Personally, we were planning to meet up at her local library on friday, so until then, i can't personally do anything, right now we are just planning to do a complete format and reinstall of her windows 7 ultimate (which she doesnt have the key for, and somehow installed from one of my USBs instead of Microsoft Office 2010..) and downgrade it back to Windows 7 Home premium, I just downloaded an .iso off the net for her, because she does have the key and the laptop came with no windows 7 discs. Do you think that will work? or does the Asus N61JV have a specific windows 7?
Also, on friday, i do plan on messing with her laptop (in the form of the wireless switch, obviously) so until then i cant really message back..
Edit: What gets me everytime is that she somehow managed to reinstalled windows 7, and not notice that, i mean.. come on, how obvious is it? /facepalm
Edit2: ^ Sorry just a little rant, shes blaming me for everything RAWR!
Edit3: I'm out for school, i may or may not reply to you guys, Thanks in Advance!~

Any Windows 7 iso should work, you will have to call to activate it, as long as you have the key you should be ok.
I just downloaded and installed a copy of Vista for a girl at work. She had a valid key just in similar situation no disk. When I grabbed the iso, I made sure to get an OEM for her specific computer.
If you get a retail copy of an iso the keys may not work, hence the call to activate.
Whether it will work or not I can't say, I don't think I would do a format and reinstall just to get the wireless working though. Reinstall wifi drivers. Verify there are no conflicts with IRQ's, make sure the physical button is on, make sure it's enabled in BiOS, and make sure that the device itself in Windows is not disabled. If all those are met, then yes I'd consider reinstall, or that the wifi is possibly bad.

So now she fixed it, but do you know what caused it?
The reason for her problem is due to the way the notebook is designed.
Certain models will have a single switch that controls both bluetooth and wireless. When the switch is turn on, the software might have enabled the bluetooth as the primary connectivity device thus disabling the wifi radio on her notebook. When this happens she will not be able to connect to any internect via wifi.
Even though she randomly press some buttons to get it back to work the way to do it is to head over to the bluetooth/wifi manager and manually turn back on the wifi radio. Also if she never uses bluetooth, disable it so the switch can be used just only for the wifi.
Old models will have independent switch for both bluetooth and wireless so problem like this has a less chance of happening, but now finding one with independent switches is slim as people want to pay less with more in return.

@kls85
Saving all that, thanks, that's probably what caused it, because she was saying that when she hit the switch, that only the bluetooth came on.
@saif
i honestly wouldn't be surprised if that was the case
Thanks everyone for your help
