Cheat Engine

This is the scenarios:
1. I want to find string, lets say "ABC". Search as string and type ABC
in the search box.
2. Found address lets say 0A98FFE0.
3. Click, Find out what accessed this address. CE says The value of the pointer needed to find this address is probably 0A98FFE0.

Can anyone explain this thing to me?

What kind of instruction was it?
did it have a register between the brackets or a hexadecimal value?
in case of a hexadecimal value you've found the base pointer. In case of a register: The offset you need to apply is 0. thats all

hi,

I got exacly the same problem.

In UT3 I added some new guns(in this case the sentinal depoyer thingy), however the cheathappens trainer only raises and freezes the number to 100. and for some stuff it need 280 ammo... 180 more than availible.

so I use cheat engine, found the adress, changed the number, and it works, now I need a pointer, becouse the adress changes every time you die... and to find the adress every time you die in UT3, that is alot.
so I seek wat writes to it. and it and it find some things. I check the pointer address, but it is the same as the adress that is the ammo count.

but unlike the other guy. the only thing that is standing thare is
move [edx],ecx, and I have no Idea wath it means.
with EDX being 340A979C... the adress that is my ammo. and that is irritating. (also happens alot with other games BTW.) and I am not good with cheat engine. so does someone know wath to do?

sorry for the messy post and my bad engilsh. ask if you want to know something or want enclearence.

this means that the ADDRESS 340a979c gets the VALUE of ECX

so now you need to find the ADDRESS that contains the VALUE 340a979c (and use offset 0 when adding it) and then find out what accesses that ADDRESS

and if all else fails try the pointerscan

thanks, but. thare is only 1 adress containing it and it is changeing value, thus unuseble. since after some sec (5 or so) it changes to 0. and thus not usefull. but the pointer scan is a nice Idea but I actaly don't have much good experiance with it.

for the pointerscan remember that you MUST use the rescan option

for some reason people always assume that every pointer it returns is valid, while only 1 of all the pointers it finds it actually valid

yea, already found out, and just did a pointerscan. zero of max (10000000 adresse, I did get a error of max amount of adresses reached)
I did 1 rescan and I got not a single pointer. is this meaning that I should give up or?
