|
|
I have a reaaaaaaally old laptop for $200 , a 2007 brand hp pavilion dv6646 model. I went on crucial and did a scan on my laptop and it cost me $100 to upgrade from a 2gb to a 4gb. It would make a difference but is it worth paying another $100 for it? Or I should just sell my laptop and buy another one since 4gb ram are in most laptops in the market.

It was about $50 until they stop making 4GB kit (2GBx2), 200-pin SODIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300 memory module I think. The lowest price is $84.00 w/o tax though

The number of available slot in most notebooks is 2*.
Having 2GB can be in the following configurations depending on how the factory install it.
Config#1
2x 1GB= 2GB
Config#2
1x 2GB= 2GB
If you have the setup of #2, then your in luck as they're should be a free slot available for a extra 2GB.
A single piece Crucial 2GB DDR2 (800MHz) is $40.99

If you have the setup of config#1, then it's a bummer as if you want 4GB, you will need to remove both pieces
and it will cost you
-The same ram but you buy 2 of them = $81.98 or
-Crucial 4GB kit (2x2GB) = 84.99

Not enough money?
Just get a single piece 2GB and upgrade it to 3GB.
*Certain new notebooks will have 4 slots.
