|
|
im interested cuz they are small and portable and cheap. I hav a good gaming PC so I was only gonna use the netbook mostly for net browsing, school stuff, vids n traveling if i need to. Im wondering if it could handle something like Microsoft Visual Studio 08 cuz it would be very useful, it passes the minimum specs for MVS but might lagg like crap while compiling.
So any opinions? is it worth it?fails?

yes it will run visual studio.
unless you are compiling something enormous, it probably doesn't take longer than seconds anyway, even on low end stuff like that.

| Intel Atoms cannot run flash, period. So don't even think about playing a flash game or watching a video on hulu, or even more pathetically, not blocking ads.

this is a pretty stupid assumption.
flash + hardware acceleration = hd video, easily.

If budget is not the problem, ASUS offers wide range of ULCV laptop from 12-13", bit bigger compare to a netbook, but offers more power in exchange of shorter battery

I cannot run shit and using hardware acceleration makes it worse. Even youtube lags from a fresh install. If you want a netook make sure it has ion gfx or something. I think they now sell them with mobile series 4 chips, which will run hd videos better. Still shit.

The ION graphics won't kick in unless your running adobe flash 10.1 which support GPU acceleration, otherwise your still using the CPU as the work horse to run flash contents.

Then its completely the problem of the atom cpu, in which case I would get a netbook with the dualcore atom.

With hyperthreading, that makes it 4!
In all seriousness, dual core atom + ION runs about $400-500, with $100 more, there is already market for ULVC laptops. IMO extra core is not worth it as you have to pay a higher price tag and less battery life.
