I'd also recommend checking out the .hack games. They're pretty short, but I enjoyed them.

Tried. They have an area each where it cannot progress. It just stops, literally. I been thinking about the .hack series as well. Used to love the anime.

GOW/II ran so damn slow on my pc I just said fuck it. Every other ps2 game runs fine though so idk.
