Cheat Engine

We are currently in a major discussion over the usage of CE over at Age of Kings......

We are writers of AI scripts and we play a league over there and each game can take up to 2 hours....

Using speed hack on CE lowers the game time considerably and we want to use it damn it!

Trouble is some scripters are saying that it effects the performance of the scripts and we wondered if anyone could shed some light on this?

How does speed hack actually speed things up??

Speed hack makes the frame rate increase in the game you are playing I believe.

So, it seems all cheat engine does it reduce x in terms such as "wait x". This follows from my experience; when I test speedhack on programs designed to run as fast as the computer will allow speedhack makes no difference.
Am I right in thinking this is all it does, and it definitely does not affect the running of the program in any other way?
