my dick head of a friend spilled coke on my Dell XPS M1530 when the lid was open, none appered to go inside, i turned it of and didn't turn it on till the morning. when i booted it up again it said there was no hard drive. i put the HDD in to an external case and it was spinning but was not picked up by windows. i just put another hdd into the laptop and it worked fine. is there anything that i can do to fix, or at least save my files off the old hdd.

Test it and if it's damaged, clean it.

Open hardrives case, clean disk. (don't touch with fingers, make sure you use a cleaner which won't damage it either)

is my guess.

I have no idea how to respond to this. Should I flame and get warned, or should I laugh? I just don't know.

Just let it dry, see what happens. Clean it up.

Have you tried connecting the hdd directly into a desktop instead of using the external case?

Does the other hdd (ones that works fine) work with the external case as well?

My sisters have spilled shit on laptops before. The HDD was the last thing to even check. It probably got the connector wet. Since its a dell, is it under warranty?

Pull the PCB from the bottom of the drive, you'll probably need an allen wrench or a torx bit. Run it under water, then let it dry for several days.

Sorry, what is the PCB? Is it's the green chip board on the underside of the HDD.
