my old computer is broken now and i will sell my small netbook too. but then i want to have only one computer. one that should be light and portable too. i like the white macbook with its 13 inches display very much.
i think the newest one has a new graphics chip. do you think i can play games like starcraft 2 and half life episode 3 on this computer.

Macbooks often sacrifice performance for battery life. I doubt that the newest one has the newest graphics chip. The most I've seen has the gtx 240m. If you want a small gaming laptop the alienware m11x might be for you.

From what I've heard a lot of macs have trouble playing portal even. They tend to have old hardware. Even the newer ones. I cannot imagine how much apple will charge when they put in newer gfx chips and better cpus.

However I'd put money on that the people who have problems are the idiots who have at least 15 applications running at the same time, causing Portal to run slow.

People on /v/ have bitched, but that falls under your idiot theory like 99.9999999999% of the time. Still, macs do not have half as good hardware as a pc. I'm still trying to figure out the mac games only work on intel thing. Since when do they have AMD macs?

i doubt that the display drivers any anywhere near as optimized on the gaming front. the new render path portal uses probably isn't as quick either as one that's been in development for years upon years.
it's definitely slower, sometimes by a large margin.

They don't have AMD Macs (yet).
Also, a lot of people run PC games on a mac using bootcamp (lets you dual boot Mac OS X and Win7) without problems. Only downside is that it takes a little while to switch between the two I guess

The new gen macbook offers GTM 320M, aka the GTM 220M, AKA the GT210
Don't expect games on high setting, but playable on low-medium as SC2, valve games are more CPU bounded.
@Hero, Foxconn is shit and we know it, but the whole fucking industry rely on Foxconn, live with it or suck it. Also there are only Intel and PPC mac, and Steam decide to drop support for the PPC mac, aka the beloved G5,G4 powerbook, etc....
If OP wants a notebook light as the 13" Macbook, look at the ASUS ULV laptops, those with Nvidia Optium Prime technology enabled, i'm pretty sure it will run cheaper than buying a 13" Macbook (including Apple Tax)

If I'm not going bonkers, the gt320m is more towards gt220 power, with it's 48 cores. The 9400m had only 16 cores, and was more equivalent to the 210. None of these have an awful lot of muscle, though, so it doesn't matter much.

it's definitely slower, sometimes by a large margin. | I mean, if my old FX5200 could run Portal flawlessly at medium to low settings...well, I think you get my point.

I ran almost all Valve gaems on my FX5200AGP with pentium 4 hyper threaded on 1gb ram, shit was so cash at that time, it took 10minute to load TF2, and is 22fps everyfucking where, is like watching a movie.
