There are Russian scientists taking a break from nuclear missiles somewhere, inventing a new type of pcie x16 for laptops. Similar to the MXM, but with a market. IT WILL HAPPEN, someday. I wish.

If it does happen the world will change greatly. Laptop providers will sell laptop barebones. Giving the ability to chose your own cpu/gpu/ram/battery, all without paying another 1,000USD for the customization. It will be a revolutionary day if it happens.
