The 13 inch macbook pro has a GT320m, which is about as powerful as a GT220. Yes, it can run portal. But, the 9400m's that most other mac products have cannot.

Are you kidding me? A 9400m is miles past what you need to run Portal.

I don't know where anybody got the idea that any game on the source engine requires a relatively good computer at all. The source game with the highest specs is L4D by far, which was just a little bit more than my old computer could handle. Apart from that, though, my old computer could run every single source game.
Intel Celeron D 2.4Ghz, single-core processor
GeForce FX5200
1GB of DDR PC3200
Those were my old specs. You don't need any higher specs than the above to run source games, which includes Portal.

So yeah, Macs can run portal, pretty much all of the ones that they sell today can.
