And dont buy xfx. MSI or sapphire fans FTW.

Yes, XFX has gone shit recently
MSI, ASUS are the only vendor that does reference board for the 5xxx series and have voltage tweaking, i think gigabyte has the same thing but uncomfirmed.

Without wanting to take a risk on the XFX, I've decided to go with this

Comes with Dirt2 , but it seems the "gamer toolkit" is long gone.

If you want a 5830 is like 70 bucks cheaper and its got a iCooler, not sure how good iCooler is. Sounds like apple made it. 5850 has more stream processors but the clock is higher on the 5830.

Fuck the 5830, whoever wants a defected 5870 can do whatever the fuck they want, fucking over priced and performance the same as 4890, barely any improvement on tdp to the 4890

5870 = 4890 + dx11. Mhm.

Doesnt matter. The cards aren't entirely stronger. They just have dx11 added. I'm not going to say they are the same power, because yea they probably are stronger, but its all about the dx11.

From what I've read, what AMD does is picks the GPUs that are not able to run at a desired clock speed or got defects to be at the lower-end of the line up.

e.g. A batch of GPU is produced on a waffle like structure
-This portion has all the desired specs----becomes HD5870
-This portion does not meet the require specs, some SMID don't work--HD5850
-Shit, we can't just throw the remaining away (not qualified to be label as HD5850)... Ah ha! How about creating another model and sell at a cheaper price? Genius! HD5830

Man I need some dough since the Eyefinity 6 was my first choice.
Even though I'll just be used one monitor, having 5 extra mini-DP ports is sort of cool. Razz

That is BY THE WAY the same thing that happens with processors.

"Shit, one of the cores doesn't turn on automatically in this batch of quads. Hey, wait a minute..."

Batches that performs beyond the desired specs, glues them together
*High-fives each other and does pelvic thrust*

HD5970

If you can find and afford a 5970, do it. Otherwise a 5850 would keep you coo for the next few years I would Imagine. How much more power could games besides crysis possibly need?

Also depends on what gamer you are. Some people play in like 800 x600 and some play with crazy resolutions and highest details possibly. I recommend the 5850 because i don't think its even worth getting anything like a 5970.

Btw. What happened to XFX?

Sapphire gave me DOA twice Smile

Never had a problem with sapphire. As for XFX. Their fans have gotten worse, their cards are voltage locked, and they have to use fake robberies for marketing ploys. Its just sad. Go MSI or Gigabyte. HIS, sapphire, diamond. They are all ok. Power color strikes me weird. They are a lot cheaper so I stay away.
