Hopefully this will force Intel to lower their prices.

Also, is unlocking worth the risk? If it works, I get 2 more cores, but will that raise power consumptions, temperatures, and wear out my CPU a lot faster?

And if I fail to unlock the cores, would I screw up my CPU?

There is, but you need the knowledge of Chinese to understand what the fuck they are saying.

Speeds should be pretty self-explanatory with the limited English labels. The one under HyperTransport clocks should be the northbridge speed.

The lower part where the charts comparing processors, mobos and RAM seems to be the read/write speeds of the memory.

So why would they make working hex cores into quads? I understand a bad core, locking it and another for a quad that can be sold. But if you can easily unlock it, why did they even bother selling it with locked cores? sounds like wasted money for AMD.

AMD probably figured that it would be more cost-efficient to use one production line to produce the processor, locking the cores and adjusting to the market demands than to have multiple production lines that may or may not satisfy the market quickly enough, not to mention the additional costs to maintain the machinery.

I thought AMD would have grown smarter by now since unlocking disabled cores isn't new at all. Then again the inability to unlock cores might drive away potential customers instead.

The cpu will not wear faster at all, and certain motherboards have a pretty much 100% unlock rate. It will raise power consumption-- but that's totally unavoidable. After sewing red fabric on your white shirt, you wouldn't complain about how your shirt is no longer white! After unlocking, you're running a hex core. It isn't a quad core anymore.

Wait I'm getting a CPU AMD Phenom II X4 965 is it a 900t series product? If so can I unlock it to be 6 cores, or did I misunderstand this whole thread?

That's not unlockable to 6 cores, because its the older model.

The 900t series is not even released yet. The 900Ts are looking to replace the older 900s.

And guys, if I try to unlock the cores, and fail, does it screw up my CPU?
