Do you think iPad OS didn't cost at least as much as windows 7 to make? 7 is essentially the same basic functionality as Vista, Vista is totally the same as XP, and XP is the same as all the even older stuff. Recently, I found a box of floppy disks, and one of the many programs I found was Info Select 1.0- I popped it into my sister's computer's floppy drive, installed the program, and it worked! Ipad and Iphone OS's were actually made from scratch- they undoubtedly had a more complicated development process than win7.
And no, it's not a huge markup. That list doesn't have the retail cost of the processor (like they're not selling a 100$ C2d for 200. That's waht they do on their macs) that's how much it costs to make the processor. We're so happy with ourselves that we biuld our own computers and save lot's of money from prebuilt ones- but do you think a 180$ 965 cost amd 180 to make? No! The reason why prebuilts cost more is because the companies are charging a profit on a profit, and we can buy the component alone, minus the second profit.
If this doesn't make sense to any of you, I don't even care. It makes perfect sense to me in my own head.

What ipad OS? the ipad uses the same OS as the iphone, name iphone OS, no fucking difference, same as now, same shit in the future ( 4.0, all have identical features, check the presentation yourself)
What processor? you mean the A4 processor that just the SAME OLD PROCESSOR WITH A FUCKING NEW NAME? Apple is not making a profit, Apple is making A FUCKLOAD of profit. People believe the Ipad will be the "Revolutionary game changer" and Apple made it happen, charge a mark up, charges you hundreds for Apps and accessory. Also what retail price? find a A4 processor in retail? Dream on.

A4 is quite similar to the Samsung processor Apple uses in the iPhone. It's clear from both hardware and software that this is a single-core processor, so it must be the ARM Cortex A8, and not the rumored multicore A9.
