Nicotine gum/patches don't work.

Swedish snus on the other hand, does work.
Refer to this video series
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOuohDCUxzw
Watch all the 4 episodes, and disregard the porn music Razz

Whatever you think, snus != dip, doctors even say that snus IS a safe alternative to smoking, oh and it doesn't cost much.
Edit:
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1974872/how_to_use_snus_to_quit_smoking.html

Snus has like 4 times the nicotine than a ciggerate. It is expensive, it's harder to quit if he starts with snus. Mostly becasue you can have a snus under your lip everywhere. I would not recommend snus to be a substitute for smoking.

--Just have gum in your mouth 24/7.

lol? A smoke pack costs what, 3-5$? Well that's about as much as snus costs.

You wouldn't recommend it for an alternative? So.. you're saying smoking is healthier than snusing.
Yes, because snus has 1k+ chemicals added to it and it damages your lungs, moron.
It might have more nicotine, but that doesn't change anything(you won't get the full nic hit at once, it takes time so you can take it off after 30 mins and only get like ~30% of the nicotine).

Mostly becasue you can have a snus under your lip everywhere
Yes, you can't chew gum everywhere.

I still recommend snus for quitting.
Oh, and Swedish stuff > American Camel or w/e the name is.
Edit,
http://www.swedishmatch.com/en/Snus-and-health/Harm-reduction/Research-on-snus/
Also, did I forgot to mention that snusing doesn't harm anyone?(Not even mentally), someone chewing gum can be irritating, oh and passive smoking more deadly than smoking fyi.

Snus has about 3k chemicals in it.
Where can you have snus that you cant have gum?
Snus doesent irritate people?
Try looking at a give with a lip thats twice as big as it should be. You just want to him the guy-- Snus can give you cancer and give you bad breath.
Get your facking facts straight.

3k chemicals? no, get your facts straight, since snus is regulated as a food product in Sweden, they must state the ingredients.
Note, that I have no idea about the "American" snus (which sucks tbh), I've heard the TSNA levels are higher for American Camel and such,
that's why I suggested OP to use the Swedish snus.
Following:
Contents:
Tobacco
Water (about) 52%
Taste Enhancer (table Salt)
Humectants (E 1520)
Acidity Regulator (E 500)
Nicotine (about) 16 Mg/g
Salt (about) 5%

http://www.northerner.com/en/snus/Northerner_Strong_Portion_Snus-282/Thunder%20Berry%20Blend,%20Extra%20Strong%20Portion-20589/

There... I see about.. 7 ingredients :O and no shitty chemicals that makes you more addicted like cigs.

Edit, so I googled snus and 3k chemicals and got this
http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:3UYUc5mSdroJ:www.tobaccofreeu.org/facts_figures/documents/spit_fact_sheet.pdf+snus+3k+chemicals&hl=en&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEESi1ezdhhXF_xnetWjHDUBBqtFPV8fJLQd1CPJU3uupNxPC7VxlE52BtMJjwTgA67NP5mv2hVL5IcAT84Zt6vhr9AzqinB2IWjEIUqEJVbRnHS8_TPMTnASGAoc-olzbkGbijaVC&sig=AHIEtbR8LefK4SmjDWaeGT7Qu4aO0T_zvQ

Basically, spit tobacco has 3k chemicals, snus isn't spit tobacco, dip is.

The best way to quit is to prepare yourself mentally. First try to smoke less and once you get down to like... 1 cigarette a day, then you can try to quit.
Another way is to throw away all cigarettes you have and buy one package. That package must remain sealed and you have to keep it until you're sure you no longer crave for smoking. 5~10 minutes of the day is spent by a table looking at the package without wanting to smoke them.

Meditate on a pack of Camels like in Still Life with Woodpecker.

There's nothing that replaces the feel of actually smoking. All these patches and inhalers don't really work because you crave the feeling of inhaling and tasting the smoke. What you need to do is slowly cut down on the smokes at your own pace. There's two ways to do it.

First is to aim to half the number you smoke every two weeks. Once you're down to one or two a day, try going alternate days smoke free. Eventually you can just stop.

Second way is to cut down the daily count by a set number, e.g. 4 per day less every week.

It's pretty much up to you.

Willpower required.

replacing smoking with chewing isn't a better alternative. Try Zyban

This is the best way to stop smoking, although it is the hardest.
If you quit by going cold turkey, you're far less likely to start again later.

Don't get nicotine patches... the thing addictive about smoking is the act of smoking itself, and inhaling the smoke. The nicotine actually plays relatively little part.

One tip I can give you is to start only inhaling into your mouth, and not your lungs. That way it's only partially satisfying, so that you get rid of cravings but don't become more addictive... it worked for me. You have to slowly cut back.

All the people that are saying "Just use willpower!" or "Chew something!" have obviously never had an addiction and/or have never overcome an addiction.

Electric cigarettes apparently work rather well.

No nicotine in them, they just look like cigs and give out smoke (vapour) like a cig when you inhale.

Buy a pack of sunflower seeds.
Put all the seeds in a pan and add salt, turn the oven on and mix the salt and seeds for about 5 minutes.
Now every time you have a craving just start eating sunflower seeds.
