My EEE 1000HE gets at least six hours for everyday use (though that's usually not very resource intensive) with minimal configuration, stock kernel in laptop-mode. Windows estimates something like 7 hours at 100%. Never bothered timing, though.
It's true that at least some manufacturers give how long the computer can idle at the (XP) desktop, with modified services.

For one, velocity micro is a pile of shit to make you pay a fuckload of money. And secondly, hardly anyone builds laptops, much less netbooks. Do you know how hard it is to fit shit in those cases?
You misinterpreted my post.
By custom, I meant that HE DECIDES WHAT THE FUCK HE WANTS TO BUILD.

And I don't see microsoft calling anything you build a pile of shit.

I'd like the netbook with possibly a decent battery life.

Define your term as to what is "decent battery life"?

Netbook manufactures claim some of their model can last up to 9 hours on a single charge (HP claim one of their notebook can last up to 24 hours on a single charge).
How are these battery measured and what has to be done in order to get that magical number of "9 hours"?

Do they (vice versa)
1. Set the screen brightness down to the lowest where you can't see shit?
2. Disconnect the internet and turn off the wireless switch since these guys sips of battery juice
3. Set power management to the max. power saving?
4. Let it sit idle until the battery dies out after "9 hours" and then boast it on their site Up to 9 hours of battery life and if you don't buy this, then your fuckin stupid!

Your be giggling and rolling on the floor, if your netbook can last up to 4-5 hours.

My dad's Macbook Pro really does have 7 hour battery.

I hope you don't think that whole page full of drop-down lists where you decide which parts to put into your computer makes it not a prebuilt.

Custom-built means you bought all the parts individually and assembled it using your own hands. Hardly anyone custom-builds a laptop.

And I also don't hope you think Velocity Micro = Microsoft.
