The game is unbelievabley linear.
The actual gameplay it's self is linear.
You have almost no equipment, towns? shops? haha, no, that would distract from the rather shitty story.

Edit: You should probably go with AC2. Borderlands is a better game, but you need friends to have fun with it. Knowing you though, you probably don't have any friends.

Agreed, if you have friends who don't mind pull all nighters than Borderlands is probably the best game for 360.

The sequels this year are pretty good.
If you want value for money, the Orange Box will do, if you want loads of DLC Borderlands.
