I always thought this website would be so much more amusing if they took rice from them for every question answered incorrectly.

Lol, I love that website. Me, my dad, and my sister all went on one time and we tried to see who could get the most rice in one hour. My sister won, I forget how many grains it was.

I suppose that they get money for every pageview from advertising, and the questions thing makes it so people end up giving the site a lot of views. I'm sure it says somewhere exact;y how it works.

I would agree with you if grains of rice weren't so incredibly cheap, especially when bought in bulk (wholesale is around .20 USD/lb, larger amounts in stores around $1/lb; one grain is say .28mg.. you do the math). And really, we're talking about people from developed nations who want to help out other countries over the internet. Stick it to 'em with ads, explain that if you didn't you could only donate ten grains of rice per question. I'm guessing they don't even get money from advertisement, given the "ads" and low cost of rice. Maybe some sort of grant keeps the site up -- the webhosting probably costs a hell of a lot more than the rice. I like the idea, but they don't seem committed to their stated end result with the site set up the way it is.
Though it's not a bad learning tool, I guess. They have a bunch of subjects to choose from.
