It's become less responsive and the volume buttons keep messing up on the side. It doesn't lock anymore. There was a crack on it and some water went in it, but the touch screen still works. So what should I do to make it better? Suggestions? (Cracks on the screen void Apple's Warranty so I can't take it to the Apple Store.)

| Ideally, one puts their wet iPod in rice or something and doesn't turn it on until it's absolutely dry.

Because of the fact that rice never actually absorbs any significant amount of water (or else it would get mushy- in the iphone case, it never gets any less hard, does it?) in theory it wouldn't even make a difference whether you left it in rice or the open air. As long as it sits for a gracious amount of time, like a week, because it would be dumb to take a chance that it's still wet.

If rice expands to three times its original volume (about), it would take quite a bit of water to bring about a noticeable change in hardness. I'm not saying it wouldn't work to leave it out in the sun for a while, just that rice is said to help expedite the process. I don't make the trends!

Its the starch in the rise that helps get moisture out, i had my phone go through an hour wash cycle and put it in rice and it still works perfectly.

It just occurred to me that the rice "trend" would make a pretty good mythbusters episode. I should probably send them that idea.
