srsly guy.

connect everything like you were going to use it.
instead of hitting the power button, connect both pins with something metal THUS creating a closed circuit.

just fkin touch them both to something metal at the same time. blade of a screwdriver, whatever.

Building a computer is very easy if you follow the 3 simple steps.

1. Build computer and turn it on
2. If it does not work, pull hair and scream like a little girl while running around in little circles.
3. Toss machine out the window. Razz

Seriously, take the motherboard outside of your case see if that works.
Also make sure your additional connectors (front panel USB, audio, etc) are not plugged in backwards or unplug them to see if they're causing the problem.

I'm more inclined to think that he didn't plug in the I/O switch correctly.

I thought it would have been a relatively simple thing to just jump the two pins and check if the switch should have worked.
OP, just read the motherboard and case manuals, specifically regarding the front panel connections. Find out which is positive, negative, where to plug things in. Do it; power on.
Better yet, if the power connectors don't work one way, switch 'em. Fuck the manuals, just keep trying 'til the power switch, HDD and power LEDs work and it blinks when it's suspended. It's a brute force thing, really. Rolling Eyes

the psu is the ground when it's plugged in, not the case.

what have you been doing if you haven't had the power button connected, trying to turn it on by sheer willpower?

1. Unplug everything (and I mean everything. RAM, video card, everything. Leave the CPU though)
2. Take mobo out of case
3. Plug in PSU cables ONLY (cables that only supplies power, nothing else)
4. Plug in I/O switch according to the manual (RTFM, for god sake)
5. Check that PSU is actually connected to your wall socket and possibly the switch behind is switched to "on"
6. Try to turn on your computer.

Note that this is just to test if it would POST. If it still doesn't turn on, disconnect the I/O switch and use a paperclip/staple/anything small enough to jump the two pins. You should know where they are if you know where to plug in the I/O switch.

On the back of the PSU (or somewhere on the side), some models have a additional switch with a voltage of 115/220 (some models have different numbers and the switch is usually red). If your in the US do not set it to higher number otherwise the system may not turn on.

If you don't have that switch, then it's automatic.
