Nice setup! If I may give you a tip: the Intel Core i7 support triple channel mode, meaning that memory should be equally divided over each channel. You probably have six memory banks, to which you should add an equal amount of GB per 2 slots. For instance, I have 3GB per channel to my Intel Core i7, totaling on 9GB of DDR3 memory.
Just a tip, it'll maximize your CPU's true potential. Also, the Intel Core i7 is a quad-core processor, not an octo-core. Under windows it'll seem like it has eight cores because of hyper threading (HT).

actually I have only 4 memory banks on my mother board all filled with 2GB RAMs DDR3 1600 MHz

Not my internet rig, but it does damn near everything else:
HP DL785 G6
512GB RAM (DDR2 667MHz Registered ECC, operating at 533MHz due to registered bus limitations)
8 AMD Opteron 8439SE hex-core procs (48 cores total)
16 500GB 6G dual port SAS drives (total of 4TB in RAID 1+0)
1 NC375T quad-port gigabit NIC w/ 256MB TOE cache
2 Smart Array P410 controllers with 512MB each BBWC
1 Smart Array P411 controller with 512MB BBWC connected to an HP 600MDS (70TB raw/ 35TB total in RAID 1+0)
Downsides are that it's a noisy monstrous pair at 500lbs and it has 10 1200W power supplies total.
Yes it's overkill, but I don't care. It spends most of it's time chewing on BOINC projects, and as a massive file server.

Your machine seems to be a weird mix of old and new hardware. DDR2 are of the last age, but the mobo was released in Q3'09.
What are the model numbers of your processor and sound card? Also, graphics card?

DDR2 isn't obsoleted technology. Power consumption is better and it can reach higher clocks for all the enthusiasts out there, but chipset performance is probably more important than potential gains of DDR3 at this point.
Memory prices are getting crazy though, looks like DDR3 will be going down...

Yours is almost as bad as gogodrs, you have a very high end processor with a ton of memory, and your video card (while it happens to be one that I like quite a lot) is bullshit compared to the rest of your system. No load could ever make your system use more than 600 watts, either. Protip: the reason why people get bigger towers is for better video devices. My friend has a micro atx mini tower, and his same video card fits just fine with great air circulation.

Yours is almost as bad as gogodrs, you have a very high end processor with a ton of memory, and your video card (while it happens to be one that I like quite a lot) is bullshit compared to the rest of your system. No load could ever make your system use more than 600 watts, either. Protip: the reason why people get bigger towers is for better video devices. My friend has a micro atx mini tower, and his same video card fits just fine with great air circulation. |

How so? The only hardware in a computer that is physically limited by the size of the case is the video card, or possibly an after-market cpu cooler. Period.
