Its been on my mind lately and i've been wondering, is it like RAM or what exactly does it do? Ive got a 4GB USB plugged in for it because i head it improves performance. But yeah i just want to know what exactly it does for the computer? ty in advance.

Its something to make use of a usb HDD as ram. It sucks horribly for vista. I heard it actually helps in windows 7. It would use the usb HDD as pagefile or something I guess.

I'd think using a USB drive would suck major balls as pagefile. Think of the data transfer rate compared to an actual harddrive? Plus the increased usage causing more wear&tear for the drive.

I believe it's more for caching frequently used programs.
Even though USB flash drives have much lower sustained transfer rates, they have no rotational latency to worry about which matters more with small programs than STR.

it does work, though don't count on it doing much of anything if you have a sane amount of RAM
you'll only see a difference if you're pathetically RAM starved.

I've used it before a few times using a 1GB, 2GB and 8GB USB Drive and I didn't notice any difference. I don't remember which OS.

Agreed - I'd imagine it's really for people with few space left on their HD's, who don't have the hindsight to buy a new one, or upgrade.

I have to agree. Windows 7 is a great OS, and it does run fine. If you can't even run the OS smoothly, I'd consider upgrading hardware, or better yet, build a new computer. If you meant you can't run it smoothly as in your having software issues then I'm going to call you a troll...
Seriously, Windows 7 is not to blame for anything.
I don't think there is much software that won't run on Windows 7.

I don't think there is much software that won't run on Windows 7. | Windows 7 didn't detect my realtek sound card. It was a pain in he ass to find the driver.
