That's how I learned as well, then took it further and built ones that I didn't see pre-built in school. Building one back up after you take it apart is easy, you have some sort of knowledge of where something goes even if you don't know what it is. Building one from scratch with no prior knowledge requires either a manual or someone there to help so you don't don't trash the equipment.
As is true. Thats also how I learned to fix cars, which has become my main career choice. But taking apart a pre existing pc does help you learn where things are naturally. All though, a lot of plugs and such are a specific size, and some are even color coded now. I know while looking for a new mobo for my build, the FDD headers are green on alot, and the IDE for the dvd drive is yellow. But they are also different sizes.

I don't get where people get the assumption that laptops are for gaming. Laptops are SHIT at gaming unless you buy an incredibly and ridiculously overpriced beast of a laptop, other wise they are SHIT. And if you're wondering why they are shit, it's because a laptop needs the same parts as a desktop but need to be almost 5x smaller. Smaller parts = cost more to produce. So an average laptop is going to have SHIT parts. Don't bother replacing the laptop's video card even though it's highly unlikely that you can.

the upcoming ASUS gaeming series laptop with 5870M and i7 priced at 2,000 USD?
or the Alienware MX11 with GTX335m and ULV core2 starting $800 USD?
protip: gaeming laptop are expensive because there are no market for them, only kids on the child predator list would buy them. (see all those cheap laptop for sale at Walmart? Because they have a market for them, hipster and such
protip2: you can replace laptop vidya card for all everyone can care, it'd be only a treasure hunt and making over hundreds of phone call to China OEM to sent those MXM chips to you, and you voiding warranty on your laptop that is.
