Think: what are you trying to get out of Ubuntu?
I advise you to learn about Linux and free software a little if you haven't. Sort of keep it in the back of your mind even when using Ubuntu casually.

install wine
make sure your display driver is up to date (the default nvidia driver can be quite crap at times)
and that's about it. Now you can run most windows games and apps and enjoy linux

Second that, though i noticed a lot of lag compared to when running the programme properly in windows.
Edit:
Oh, and get some Antivirus.

This is a proper advice for Windows. Unless you do total bullshit and install malicious shit there is no need for buggy AV solutions.
At OP:
Install Wine, VBox, configure Compiz, install Screenlets, pimp your looks from gnome-looks.org (was it?), install azureus for a torrent client, install some software, do w/e you do usually on PC... lol.

I like Deluge as a torrent client, though Transmission or rtorrent might be a bit faster. Java-based Azureus hasn't done anything for me but eat cpu time.
OP, there are lots of things to learn. Check TLDP's howto/guide pages to start someplace.

I'm serious. There are now viruses made for linux out on the web that can come from things like themes.
