Ah well then. It must be for mods only. Dark Byte also has searching for posts here disabled, uses less memory and is easier on the server... though with the lack of Maple/AE it could probably handle it fine.

@Fantasy: Well, summing up and adding onto what's been said in here:
*Link to main CE website (because I don't want to have to type it in whenever I want to go back there.)
*Fix the link on the front page to view our posts
*New skin would be nice, but might as well upgrade the software before then. As you say in your signature, the smileys aren't that good.
*DB is validating accounts manually, (he has to accept them,) so he obviously needs to get ReCAPTCHA. Might as well upgrade to PhpBB3.
*I'm sure there are many improvements in ease of use as well as optimizations in PhpBB3
*We'd be able to insert many more new tags, I.E. videos (hack demonstration, tutorials, etc.)
*DB will be able to use global announcements
*Inactive users can be pruned (decrease Database size I'm assuming.)
And let's face it here, it's just old. One might say Windows 3.1 is stable, but my friend, it's time for an upgrade.
@Karakawe: I guess I'll answer the main idea from that topic then:
Viral
And?
phpbb2 is awesome, and the mods on here (democracy for example) aren't always ported to phpbb3.
Well, saying PhpBB2 is awesome is just an unsopported opinion. And the democracy mod is just like any other warning/rep mod out there, and I'm sure there have been several already made or reproduced for PhpBB3.
@RAV3N: Obviously. And as I said afterwards; I've been around forums enough to know the standard rules.
@itapa: Agreed x2. The world can do without less cussing, and those links should either be fixed or removed completely.
@Last post by SF: True, it's nice to see the forums very snappy when I click on a link. I think a little experimenting would be nice though
And thank you everyone for your input.

Only specific accounts are validated manually (repeat passwords, more than one ipcount, etc) - and there are mods doing that as well so it goes quicker.
You can use | Code: | | | for youtube videos, and you can also attach swfs.
Also, upgrading would require DB to have to re-do all his extra additions he added himself.

I'm waiting for phpbb4 | is it just me or is the server always a bit slow to update warn and ban expiring
At one point I had to wait an additional week for my ban to be removed :-/

at most 24 hours (ban expire checks are done ever 24 hours)
if it took longer, then your ban got revised by me

Warnings are generally supposed to stay forever, aren't they? And according to this, PhpBB3 "Olympus" (3.0.6) comes with temporary (and I'm assuming permanent as well) bans system built in.

ce, warnings here expire and that's the most important feature of this forum
phpbb3 does not have expiring warnings and no-one seems to want to make one as "bans already expire"
example: This forum bans you for a limited time when you've hit 5 warnings.
Now if a user was a retard and got warned 4 times 6 years ago then he would get banned each time he gets warned now
Warnings on this forum expire quickly. If you have 0 warnings, the first warning will be 7 days, with an existing one 14, etc...
the expiring warning feature is the main reason I'm not switching to phpbb3

I don't know, I doubt it would be much slower with a manual warn/ban system. My last 24 hour ban was more like a 60 hour ban.

And I may not script/program/what ever you want to call it in PHP, but I'm sure it wouldn't be very difficult to create the addon. You may become a celebrity of PhpBB too
All it would have to do is check the user's warns the next time they get warned, and if it exceeds a certain level, take appropriate action.
