my internet plan is 384kbps and my actual download speed is about 45-50kbps

what would be my actual download speed if i upgrade to 1Mbps?

1 Megabit = 1/8 MegaByte

kb =/= kB

so 1Mb is around 128kB

Dividing by 10 or so is more accurate when you factor in overhead.

I agree with Zarr.
I signed up for TPG ADSL2+.
The lady said my speed would be 7Mb.
My speed is 700kb/s.
