Hack a repair with some tape if the camera itself works fine.

I watch Judge Judy alot. He'd need some sort of proof.

Ex : Before and after pics, without that shit, he's actually got no proof you were the one to break it.

Only way he really gots you, is if he has a chat log saying you were the one to break his camcorder.

Other then that, deny the whole thing.

I don't believe he has any legal ground to do anything about it. Not that it would ever come to that, he's just a kid trying to scare you.

If the police get involved just explain the story to them. There's nothing they can do without some solid proof that it was your fault.

Talked with him at school today and he says if I don't pay him soon his parents are going to take 'legal action'. is he bullshitting?, and are you all sure he doesn't have a case? Also, I offered to try and fix it since I said I knew what the problem was but he refused to let me.
I'm just thinking he's trying to milk money out of me.
what a great time to get into shit with someone, especially on exam week

Just ignore him. He can't do anything as he can't prove it wasn't broken before you borrowed it, and get better 'friends'

Definitely just bullshitting you, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

well, I mean we didn't hang out after school or anything we were just in the same class and were cool with each other but I definitely did not and do not consider him one of my good friends.
So then what do you think will happen to this? Is he just going to let it go or forget, or what? He told his parents which is what I'm kind of worried about because parents just love to fight for this kind of stuff

His parents won't do anything. The cost of a lawyer and court costs would (probably?) be more than enough to buy a decent camera alone. His parents might contact your parents or some crap, but aside from that.. it probably wasn't really his and he broke it, but needed someone else to blame it on.
Did you get to use it at all?

I say just tell your parents what happened. If they're at all normal they probably won't give a crap, and then it's out of your hands.

First, be diplomatic about it. If he wants to bring his parents into this, then let him. Calmly, and truthfully, explain to them what is going on. Don't curse their son off, and don't act like a dumbass. Keep your emotions at rest. Chances are that they will be more willing to let this slide.

However, let's say that they don't let it slide for whatever reason. Again, stay calm. Just offer an alternative. The camera is old, it was used, and it would have most likely gone through some rough moments. There is no reason for you to buy them a new one at the same price. Get the exact model of the camera, and then e-bay it. They will end up winning, and you will end up losing less money.

Summarized Conclusion:
-Face his parents and truthfully explain. They will ignore the event, or they will ask for you to replace it.

If they ask to replace:
-e-bay it. You don't need to pay for a product that's no longer worth that.

PS:
Don't start arguments with him. He's using his parents to scare you. Let them come in, they will be more understanding.

Why should he have to pay for something that isn't his fault, even if it is super cheap or some crap. His 'friend' just wants to scare him into buying a new one.

That's why I said talk to his parents first. They will most likely just let it slide. However, if they don't(for whatever irrational reason it may be) and he does find that he has to pay for it, then the best option to go is to buy the same model for a really cheap price.

That's just what I would do. I don't like arguing with people over money. I wouldn't take this to court, instead i would just get it out of the way as easy as possible. It's a time waster for both sides just as much as it is a waste of money/effort to set up a lawsuit.

I'm honestly not lying, and I saw him in class today but he didn't say a word, so maybe it is going to blow over. But I will bump the topic if anything else happens
